I want to first THANK all of you that were able to donate a toy to Cops for Kids. I turned them in and got a BIG THANK YOU to our class. You made several children very happy this Christmas. :)
Second I want to say your FLAT STANLEY dolls are GREAT. They look fabulous and our addresses are going to send them all over the place. We will be learning about several new places on the map when they start to return to us.
Last I can't believe it is December. We still have two weeks until Christmas break and we will be working hard "just like Santa" all the way up until the day we get out. Please make a special effort to make sure your child attends school. It is very important. The end of the 2nd nine weeks is also right before Christmas and we want to make sure everyone has all their grades completed.
Along with all our regular learning we will be doing holiday activities and art. This is a very festive time of year. I hope you take the time to enjoy your blessings.
Have a great week.

What a GREAT first week we have had together.
I have enjoyed getting to know my students.

Be ready for homework to start coming home Monday night.

Happy Mother's Day! I hope everyone celebrated a special mom today. I also hope the mother's in our classroom loved your child's special gift for you. They really put a lot of thought into it. :)
I also saw several students at the park Saturday for Cops and Kids. You all have a Gotcha for attending. We definately had a lot of fun things to do there and it was a free celebration...with great weather too. If you didn't get to go it is an annual event. You should try to attend next year.
This week we are taking all FINAL grades so it is VERY IMPORTANT that your child attend school each day to get all their final work completed.
THANK YOU ahead of time on this matter.

We will introduce the Cowboy story and new spelling words for U.6W.4 We will introduce using commas to separate compound sentences and take a grade on basic division. In science we will take a grade on our simple machines booklet and computer game test.
We will do a heavy dose of AR today to try and reach our goals by Wed.

Wednesday: We will start our day today with a visit from Angela Dewberry from the Millbrook Library about their summer program.
Our trip to ARIS to see 3rd grade will be today right after that. Parents you may MEET us there if you want to join the tour.
I have sent field trip t-shirts home and ask that you please have your child wear their shirt for this last trip. They can keep them after today.
I am meeting with my principal today about any students NOT meeting the promotion / retention criteria. You have been signing the form all year and are aware if your child is a concern.
Thursday: We will host a 1st grade class to tell them about what to expect in the 2nd grade. We will give all weekly tests today.
The 100 book club party is also today for those students who turned in their blue library sheet.
Friday: Today is the last day of shaved ice. Send in $1.50 if you want your child to get one.

Wow Again... THANKS to all my kids for their sweet notes and cards and gifts. I really felt loved this morning...Actually all week long. You really know how to make a girl feel appreciated. I Love each one of you soooo much and I will miss you very much when our school year comes to an end.
TODAY we celebrated Jamie Collier's 8th Birthday in three of our green pod classes, because she is indeed a triplet. Thank you to her mom for sending in cupcakes and we appreciated all the silly birthday songs the kids sang to Jamie. She also lost a tooth. What a day.
Friday is the last day to turn in $5 for the field day spirit pack. I have received 3 order forms with no money. They have to come together to actually get a spirit pack.
Also remember to send in the ft slip to visit third grade next week. :)
These last few weeks are going to be a little crazy with activities jam packed on top of each other so we will have to go with the flow.
Please look for graded papers to come home tomorrow (Friday) and the kids will have a little something special for their mother...if they can keep it hidden until Sunday.
Tomorrow I will type our plans for next week so check out the blog. My copies have run out so there will be no paper newsletter.
Have a great night.

The Volunteer Breakfast also went GREAT today.
Thank you Mrs. Swanner and Ms. Jan for attending. Also thanks to our class choir members for singing and our student council rep. Travasia for serving the guests. You all did a Fabulous job.

Now this is the last time to take it and compare the new level to the August level. Your child's level should have gone up with all the A.R. reading we have done this year.
Our reading test is Thursday and Friday we will take all other tests.

Our Bowling field trip was GREAT FUN... One student summed it up as "The Best Day of his Life". That is what it is about right there.
I want to thank our chaperones: Rachel's Mom, Jamie's Mom, Brendan's Mom, Abbie's Mom, and our parents who dropped in to help out... Mari's Grandma and Sara Paige's Dad. We know how the day played out and WELL..... Thank you all, more than you know, for all your help in making our day successful.
The kids had a great time.
Our next field trip requires no parent chaperones. It will be Tuesday morning. We will see the Willy Wonka play put on by Stanhope High School Students. We will watch the movie on Monday afternoon to prepare for the play. Then we will compare the two throughout the week and do some extention activities.
We DO have a third field trip coming up to go visit the Airport Road 3rd grade campus. This field trip is absolutely free and parents are invited to MEET US THERE to see the new campus your child will attend. Permission slips are required and will come home to be signed MONDAY. Look for it in your child's folder.
This week we will be doing Unit 6 Week 2 curriculum in Spelling, Reading, and Language. We will be doing simple machines in Science and American symbols in S.S. to go along with the weekly story. In Math we are starting Multiplication.
Our special class this week is Library on Friday.
DIBELS testing will be on May 8th. We will be reading several passages this week in order to be extra prepared.
90 words is our last goal to end the year.
I keep telling the Kids to END STRONG. They have worked really hard this year and I'd like to see as many of them as possible make the honor roll for the last nine weeks.
They are getting tired toward the end here and any encouragement you can give your child to be on their best behavior and try their best until to the end would be appreciated.
We have about 3 more weeks of grades to take and then Awards days and fun activities to end out the year. Hang in there.
A few items we need:

This week will be incredibly normal compared to the last few that were filled with extra activities.
This week marks the crossover between the 3rd and 4th nine weeks.
Monday - Wednesday we will be completing all grades for the 3rd nine weeks in Math and Science. We will also be completing any missed assignments or make up work in all subjects due to absences.
All grades were completed last Friday, for the 3rd nine weeks, in Reading, Language, and Spelling.
This week we will be introducing U.5 W.2 weekly reading story, language skill, and spelling words. These grades will be the first grades in these subjects for the 4th nine weeks.
*Your child will have NORMAL homework all this week.
(A nightly reading passage, spelling practice pages, read the weekly story, and read an AR book)
**We only have a few more weeks to reach our 3rd nine weeks AR goals. Please encourage your child to Read, Read, Read as many Library books as they can. They are so excited when they get to SHOP at the 20 point table at our Library store.
Our special class this week is Library on Friday.
I know there have been VERY good reasons for students being absent or late to school lately. However, It would be helpful if everyone made an extra effort to be in school this week. Any missing work/test scores will turn into a zero in the gradebook if not completed. All final grades will be turned in on Friday.
In science we had an extra special measurement lesson last week. Please ask your child about watering our alligators and how much their's has grown. We will be observing the changes over the next month.
Special thanks to those of you who sent in Paper Towels and Tissues. We really needed them and appreciate it a lot.
And last but not least the kids really enjoyed making OOBLEK last Friday. Corn Starch and water makes for an interesting MIX of a solid and liquid. It has qualities of both... But can be classified as neither... It's just a mixture.
We will be experimenting with mixing and separating solids and liquids this week too. That will finish up our unit on Solids, Liquids, and Gas.
March 23rd will be our last school day before Spring Break. We will have NO SCHOOL the last week in March. Please mark your calendars and make proper arrangements for your child's care.
Don't forget to pay for the upcoming "bowling" field trip. It's ten dollars. We have only one chaperone spot left so if you want to come please let me know as soon as you can.
Have a Great Week!

We had a Fabulous Dr. Seuss Week. The kids really did a great job dressing up each day. And our Friday Parade was very fun.
Our Class won 3rd place in the 2nd grade. The kids are ecstatic about it since they created their own fish to carry on their fishing poles. Our class book was McElligot's Pool and the story line is that nobody can catch a fish in that pool it is just where they throw junk. So the boy imagines that it connects to the ocean and then a whole lot of Dr. Seussy type fish are able to be caught.
We want to send a special thanks to Rachel's Mom for helping with the parade and being a guest reader. We also want to thank Mrs. Jacki for being a guest reader as well. Friday was read across America day. And... Our Gotcha party. We Smurf Danced with the wii. Most students in our class were able to attend. Hopefully next time all of us can. We are starting over to earn 6 gotchas to go to the next party. And then after that...Our incentive field trip gotcha party.
Thursdaya night I was pleased to see those of you who attended reading night. Thanks for coming.
This week begins Unit 5 for us. We are back to all normal homework routines. Yes we have:
-spelling practice pages Mon. - Thurs.
-reading passage practice Mon. - Thurs.
-read the weekly reading story Mon. - Wed.
Our special activities this week are: Counseling with Bush on Wed. And a special Math lesson from the Auburn University Amsti teachers. And it is Shaved ice day on Wed. Bring $1.50
Friday we have Music and Computer Lab.
Special thanks to those of you who sent in either paper towels or a box of Kleenex. We are using both very often this time of year with runny noses and trying to prevent sickness spreading. We are ALWAYS in need of these items if you ever see a deal and want to send one of those items in.

This week officially marks the middle of the school year. We have finished our Unit 3 testing and are now starting our UNIT 4 Stories.
Your child will bring home a new Reading book. (looks very similar to the old one)
Your child will now have a new reading workbook (that we work on in school only)
This new book has Chapter 4, 5, and 6 and will take us to the end of the school year.
One change in our spelling homework.
Monday your child will complete BOTH sides of a practice page.
Tuesdy your child will complete BOTH sides of another practice page.
Wednesday your child will complete a fill in the blank sentences, and ABC order practice page.
Thursday... Please give your child a practice spelling test. Just practice the words together.
Friday will be our Test ... Always.
This week we have Counseling with Bush on Wed. Music on Friday, and a special math lesson with Mrs. Pam from AMSTI on Friday as well.
Congratulations to the kids... They did a GREAT job on completing their posters on the Water Cycle. They will need to study on Monday night for the test Tues. Many presenting their posters could not explain the water cycle and that will be necessary to take our test Tues.
We have our posters displayed in the hall. They are all so unique and different from each other yet have the same topic. Great Job. Projects are always so fun, and the kids love them.
In science this week we will be starting another "hands-on" AMSTI science unit called solids, liquids and gas. We will complete a notebook on a daily basis that will count for a grade at the end of the unit. Throughout the unit we will take weekly quizzes on the material we learned that week. The students will be examining, exploring, experimenting with solids, liquids, and gases. This is a fun unit. The science book also has supporting material on S,L,&G. So students will bring their books home on and off over the next month.
Have a GREAT week.

Welcome to 2012......... Happy New Year to Everyone.
I hope you had a fabulous holiday with your family. I know I did.
I forward to seeing all my babies again on Jan. 3rd. I'm sure it will take a few days to get back into the swing of things.
We are now into the 3rd nine weeks and this week being a 4 day week all of our tests will be given on Friday.
We also have Library this coming Friday. We will be spending our A.R. points at that time. Please expect your child to come home with toy-type items on this day.
You were given the spelling words for this weeks' test back in December so I hope you have been going over the words with your child.
It is best to get right back into the normal routines so... Please expect spelling homework every night, the reading passage and the reading book will also come home to be read.
Since Christmas has just passed and I'm sure everyone has new things to play with... Please feel free to send in any toys your child does not need anymore. We will put these items into our treasure box. Thank you.
Have a GREAT week.
